Finally, the outside temperature is dropping below 30 degrees and it’s becoming fun to ride bikes again.
Doesn’t it feel like it’s going to get cold all at once?

Grip heaters and electric heated gear\u2014it’s the season to be interested in those things.
After all, bikes feel best when you’re wearing a jacket over them, right?
Now then, it seems the electrical trouble from the other day has been resolved, but who knew something like that could break?
That’s how it was.
This GSF has run about 120,000 kilometers, so it’s quite an elderly machine.
Since it’s been completely unchecked for so long, I’m hoping the oil-cooled maintenance will freshen it up.

Soon both the oil cooling system and the owners start wondering how many more years of bike life are left.
It’s reassuring to get the work done quickly while we’re still able to do it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was surprisingly black, but I polished it until the aluminum base showed through.
Cleaner really does feel better mentally, doesn’t it? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish the ground connection with an oil stone or similar to ensure good contact.
You’d be surprised how much time has passed.
If you work with the mindset of improving things even by 1%, it really increases your peace of mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the generator damper wears down, it causes a rattling noise. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since it’s constantly exposed to high temperatures, it’s a harsh environment for the damper.
New ones are nice and firm, so it’s good to replace them when the timing is right.
*Though I’m not sure what “timing” really means… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The generator connector tends to melt, so check it occasionally.
It had melted last time, so I replaced it.
*This time it’s in good condition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It wasn’t leaking, but it was a bit moist.
If you warm it up properly and use the right tool, you can remove it easily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lubricate it, warm it up well with a Makita heat gun, and tap it out gently\u2014it comes out easily.
Using a lab jack or similar for height adjustment makes the work easier and simpler, I think.
