I swapped out the ZEPHYR400 parent-child meter for a GPz550 parent-child meter.

It seems like the ZEPHYR550 full-scale parent-child meter only comes in a mile meter version.
It might be my lack of research, but I can’t find one.
Well, I wasn’t planning to hit 200km\/h anyway, and the ZEPHYR400 parent-child meter would have been fine,
but I get bored easily, and after riding about 100km I got tired of it.

Since I wanted to try something new, I sourced a GPz550 parent-child meter and installed it.

It turned out to be more complicated than I expected, so I hope you’ll take this as a reference. <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t

The used parts market for Kawasaki is incredibly wonderful.
You can wait quite a while and pick and choose from plenty of options.
I think you should try to buy used parts without cracks, missing pieces, or damage.
Even if there’s something a bit beat up selling for 5,000 yen, it’s safer not to go for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m the type who always resets the speedometer to zero.

Since the bike and parts are used, I don’t really worry too much about the current mileage.
Some bikes are beat up at 20,000km, while others are in amazing condition even after 100,000km.
Honestly, I don’t pay much attention to mileage.

Even today, naked models are all about the bullet fairing.
Honestly, I’m getting tired of it. There’s this vibe like just slap a bullet fairing on it and you’re good, and I’m not sure how I feel about that.

The Zephyr parent-child meter has the tachometer large and the speedometer small.
With the GPz550, it’s reversed.
The Zephyr 400 has an 11,500 red line compared to the GPZ550’s 10,500 red line.
The Zephyr 550 has a 10,000 red line, so the GPZ 550 actually sells better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you switch to the GPZ 550 meter, the oil pressure warning lamp disappears.
It’s not particularly necessary, but I’d like to add it later.
Also, some people say it would be convenient to have a double trip meter like the Zephyr 400 meter has.

I only used it for 100km, but I’m saying goodbye to this one.
Since it’s hard to find if I dispose of it, I’d like to keep it as stock for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to combine these nicely and merge them together.
The board sandwiched in the Zephyr meter on the right is to keep the pitch from moving. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to shape issues, I cut, glued, bent, and did various things to position it correctly and complete it.
If I cut too much, I’d have to remake it, so I proceeded carefully with the work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I stripped all the paint and then painted it with gun coat.
Since it’s for myself, I was tempted to just leave it as is because it was a bit tedious,
but I thought it’s better to do it right in situations like this, so I finished it properly.

When you have time, you get some breathing room? That kind of feeling, and it’s fun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

People who aren’t interested at all might think, “It hasn’t changed at all, right?”
Anyway, setting that aside.

The Zephyr 400 parent-child meter design, including the size, is really well done.
With the GPZ550 meter, it becomes slightly smaller and the volume is toned down.
I kind of feel like the balance was better back when it was the Zephyr 400.

Well, now that I’m used to it and it has a matte black body and is smaller,
I do feel like the combat power has somehow increased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wiring modifications are basically simple, so it’s very easy.
Since there’s no oil pressure warning lamp, those who need it will need to add one.

The speedometer cable is a bit short,
I heard the Zephyr X one is a bit longer, so I’m currently ordering one.
In the end, doing something like this takes about 4 hours.
For customers requesting this as a job, the cost-benefit is poor.

I want to finish this Zephyr with as low a cost as possible, like a stylish sneaker.
I’m going in the direction of using as many OEM parts as possible without using aftermarket parts.
If aftermarket parts are installed, most people will notice when they see it.
However, with OEM parts, only quite the enthusiast would notice the difference.
I’d like to keep pushing this “squid-chewing-style custom” approach.

Big bikes are great, but if you have some spare cash,
the 500\/600 middleweight class is incredibly fun.
Easy to straddle, light to push and pull, good fuel economy, and you can cruise at reasonable speeds.
Since the tires are thin, you can choose between radial and bias.

Lately, it’s that “good value for money” thing. (*\u00b4\u03c9\uff40*)
I basically like air-cooled four-cylinder naked bikes,
and I own four: GS1000S, Inazuma 1200, CB1100SC65, and ZEPHYR550.
If I had to choose just one of these four, I’d definitely pick the ZEPHYR550.
It’s that kind of bike\u2014easy to ride and trouble-free.

The ZEPHYR550 basically has low inventory,
so if you want one, I think it’s worth getting it sooner rather than later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
