So this week I finally have some free time to work on my own bike.

That delayed feeling when you turn the throttle on and off is annoying, right?
It’s a pain to consciously try not to let it rattle while riding.
You want to reduce the play and get a solid feeling.

I think these small improvements add up to make the bike easier to ride. <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t

With the rear tire on the ground, apply a rag and shake it to check for play.


Suzuki’s new hub dampers are so tight you absolutely need silicone spray to get them in.
When there’s play like this, you get that one-beat delay every time you turn the throttle on and off.
Slightly annoying? Actually pretty annoying\u2014that’s the feeling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I cut POM sheets with a shearing machine and rounded the corners. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Without the right tools, making multiple pieces might be a bit of a hassle.
Since it’s 1mm thick, you can even cut it with scissors if you’re determined.

If your new hub damper is a bit loose, you can increase the thickness like this.
You’ll get a more linear feeling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it’s a customer’s bike, I’d recommend lightly gluing them in place.

In my case, since only I touch it, I just inserted them as-is.
Just adding 8 pieces significantly reduced the play and gave it a linear feeling.
When the hub damper has a lot of play,
“it feels like when the chain is slack,”
“the rear movement lags one beat when you turn the throttle on and off”\u2014that’s the sensation.

It’s a small thing, but when you fine-tune these details,
it becomes a bike where you can focus purely on riding, and that’s fun.
You can buy POM sheets from Monotaro, but the size is pretty big so it’s a bit in the way.
*I cut everything down to A4 size.

It’s a bit of a hack, but you can work around it this way, so give it a try. <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t
