Well, the hot days just keep going on. It’s really getting annoying.
The other day, I applied AC gas &and compressor oil additive to my truck, and the results
are absolutely terrifying\u2014I’m blown away.

Honestly, I wonder why I didn’t do this sooner\u2014the effect is that dramatic.
If you think your AC is lukewarm, I’d say it’s worth trying this service even as a last resort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sorry for the rough drawing. I had an old car stereo I wasn’t using, so I ripped it out and threw it away.
Before, when I turned the AC to maximum cold and held my hand to the vent,
there was this vague sense of coldness in the distance\u2014or maybe not. That kind of feeling.

And once I stepped outside and got back in, it became hellishly hot again,
so it was absolutely unbearable to drive.

Outside was hell, and inside the truck was also hell.
With these recent temperatures, there was no way I could endure it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I couldn’t find a car shop that would add gas while I waited. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There’s a car shop I occasionally ask for help.
I think I consulted with them last year about the AC not working well,
but the owner gave such a wishy-washy answer that I got the sense he didn’t really want to do it.

And that makes sense\u2014I don’t bring them my vehicle inspections, I do my own oil changes, and I take my tires to a tire shop.
I only bring them annoying jobs, so as a customer I’m in a pretty awkward position.
I understand completely. You just have to read the room and do things yourself when you can.

I haven’t really touched the structure of automobiles much, so I don’t understand it well.
But manufacturers design things so they can be disassembled and worked on,
so if you understand the logic, any mechanic should be able to do the work.

Anyway, I watched about five different videos to learn what was needed and what the procedure was.
What I needed was a fairly long gauge-equipped gas charge hose and AC gas.
I also prepared a compressor oil additive.

Since the AC itself probably hasn’t worked properly in over ten years,
I braced myself, thinking if this doesn’t work, something major is wrong, and got to work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was torn between the popular Wako’s or Newtech additive. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I went with Newtech based on a gut feeling\u2014it’s more familiar to me and the price was a bit cheaper.
I still vaguely remember when this product was released and the sales rep pushed it hard on me.

Since there was no gas in there to begin with, I’m not sure if this additive actually did anything.
But since the lubrication system is also questionable, it might be safer to add the additive at the same time you add gas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe because it’s a truck, even on low it’s cold. On high, it’s shiver-inducing. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since the truck’s interior is small, the AC cooling is incredible.
No matter how hot the cabin gets, it instantly becomes nice and cool\u2014that’s the state it’s in now.

What I realized after doing this is that such a simple job that takes less than an hour
has made such a huge difference that I really wish I’d done it sooner.

I’m also not sure if the additive is working, but the power loss when the AC is running seems to have decreased.
Before, I could feel the engine getting yanked back when the AC was on.
Now it’s smooth enough that I barely notice it.
Though on the highway it still doesn’t seem to accelerate as well as usual. On regular roads, it’s become very smooth.

Anyway, if your AC is lukewarm and your cabin is hot, it might be worth trying this.
The dramatic difference might be the most moving thing I’ve experienced all year.
With this, I should be able to get through next month’s August heat wave with ease, I think.
