Maintenance is extremely mundane.
There’s something called Deco-mainte, which is inspection and maintenance work (past tense).

Modern bikes are well-made, and the tricky part is “when to replace parts.” <\/strong>You know?
There’s not much payoff to maintenance \u2014bearings don’t rattle, cables don’t break, <\/strong>that sort of thing rarely happens.

So I thought, why not just replace things by year\/mileage? <\/strong>But apparently that’s not quite right (according to customers).
The theory is that things don’t deteriorate because you maintain them… Ah, I guess that makes sense… (*\u00b4\u03c9\uff40*) <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Lately, I’ve been thinking about your parts list\u2014or rather,
if I digitize what you’re currently using during work, it would make ordering easier next time… probably.

Wheel rim width, tire size, and such,
and if I really think about it, outer diameter, width, weight\u2014it might be even more fun to see those numbers every time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll also check the wheel bearing part numbers.
That way, when you want to replace the wheel bearings, I can order them quickly. *The point is not to use OEM parts.
The sprocket hub is non-sealed… really?
OEM parts are often non-sealed or single-sealed. <\/p>I prefer dual-sealed bearings.\n\n\n\n

When you get frustrated with a small job, like when a bolt is stuck or won’t come out, <\/strong>
it helps to remove frequently-touched areas, clean the threads, and check them.

Bolts that slide in smoothly are so satisfying, you know? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thoroughly scrub the chain to remove dirt, then work the chain lube in by hand, kneading it in.
Well, it just feels like it’s getting deep inside…

While I’m at it, I also remove the chain case and clean up the slider.
At this point, I check the “chain size, link count, and final drive ratio” <\/strong>so that future orders are easier.

Let me try to be a bit more organized… that’s the vibe for 2024 (*\u00b4\u03c9\uff40*) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s important to check these things anyway…
So it’s 310\/260… wow, 260 is amazing!
Checking the disc mounting is the finishing touch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I check the wheels and tires for runout and any punctures.
Occasionally, I find “bent wheels,” <\/strong>so it’s good to check them individually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, it’s not bent, but I check it every time anyway.
With something this thick, it won’t bend, but riders who push hard on 20\u03c6 or smaller rims often have a bit of rear runout. <\/strong>
*Usually there’s no spec, so don’t worry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modern anodized calipers rarely deteriorate.
Especially on bikes that are actually ridden… the tricky part is figuring out when to do an overhaul.

The inner tube was replaced previously, so it was in great condition.
I cleaned it up and put it back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
