When you isolate the caliper and touch it, it’s surprisingly “hard to feel the piston operation” <\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The piston operation is “stiff, so you need to work it out carefully” <\/strong>. It takes quite a bit of time.
It improves “at first” <\/strong>, but after covering some distance “the same situation returns” <\/strong>. . . . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Seal degradation (rubber) and debris accumulation in the seal groove” <\/strong> are the main causes, so <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The caliper piston can “be retracted without much force if in normal condition” <\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course,
straight “without tilting” <\/strong> is the prerequisite for retracting it.
If you can’t retract it without tools… that’s likely already due to seal degradation and debris accumulation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Do you need to wash and work it out?” <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is “maintenance work that’s useful when the brake caliper is healthy” <\/strong>.
It’s not “work to fix something in bad condition” <\/strong>, so make no mistake… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, “there is some improvement” <\/strong>, so deciding based on the situation is the trickiest part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An OH is “the most effective and cleanest” result <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“Hardened and deformed seals get refreshed” <\/strong>.
Since the caliper is isolated, “you can clean it thoroughly to the deepest parts” <\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working one caliper for an hour? or something like that… <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“Takes time with thin results and poor durability” <\/strong>.
Spending the same time on “an OH would definitely be more effective” <\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
