When coolant and oil temperature rise too much, there’s nothing good about it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The headlight is always on, so turning off the engine is a hassle.
Turning the key off is tedious, and there’s a risk of getting hit from behind.

Once you look at the numbers, it’s pretty eye-opening.

What temperature are we talking about while waiting at a light? How much do the coolant and oil temperatures rise?
And how much do they rise when you turn the engine off? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just this difference alone will make you go “whoa!”
It’s easy to raise, but hard to lower. It’s the opposite of income, isn’t it? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s interesting to see how many degrees drop after riding a certain distance. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n


When the outside air temperature is high, it barely drops at all.
A one-kilometer straight stretch with no traffic congestion in Tokyo is practically impossible.

If you look at the numbers for how much the temperature changes between traffic lights, you might be shocked.
It stays the same or goes up. And then it goes up even more at the next light.
You start to notice how the temperature just keeps accumulating and accumulating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When oil temperature goes up, oil pressure goes down (*’\u25bd’) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The oil gets thinner, so it’s natural, but you might wonder “is it really okay for it to drop this much?”
I haven’t done a statistical study, but when oil temperature is high (oil pressure is low), the engine loses punch and engine noise increases.
This is the kind of “running out of steam” situation that gets worse and worse, so I think it’s best to avoid it as much as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally! Rubber seals go first (*\u00b4\u0437`) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Head cover gaskets are usually the first to go.
Eventually, instead of rubber, they become hard like “plastic.” With no flexibility, they can’t stop oil from seeping.

Wiring harnesses also become brittle. If you don’t use your motorcycle carefully to avoid heat damage, the chances of running into all sorts of problems down the road increase dramatically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s the thing.
In normal circumstances, that wouldn’t realistically happen.
If everything’s working right, the engine should start right up even after you turn it off.

Is the carburettor or electrical system in bad shape? Is the starter clutch or starter motor acting up?
Isn’t this a good opportunity to take another look at those areas you’ve been ignoring?
