This ZRX just won’t leave the shop.
After finishing everything and wiping things down for cleaning…
Something feels damp? Is it wet??

Where, where… ah, it’s the water pump.
Plus the secondary air is hissing, so we’re doing a carb overhaul and intake manifold replacement too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s Suspension and Engine Maintenance Log<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

Bike: <\/strong> Kawasaki ZRX1200R<\/strong> (approximately 20 years since manufacture) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Menu: <\/strong> Complete refresh of the cooling system (water circuit). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Main work: <\/strong> Complete radiator hose replacement, water pump O-ring and seal replacement, thermostat replacement, coolant filling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mechanic’s perspective: <\/strong> No matter how pristine the exterior looks, rubber and gasket lifespan hits a major milestone at 20 years. While custom parts steal the spotlight, the top priority to survive Japan’s brutal summers trouble-free is to completely revive the invisible water system with **”trusted OEM parts”**! <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It’s generally dirty all over.
The hole diameter had shrunk, so it went unnoticed.

For Ninja models, checking the drain hole with a poke is essential <\/span><\/strong>maybe.

Embossed hose clamps hold better than slotted ones.
Slotted clamps tend to deform or bite in, which doesn’t look good.

Also, depending on the shape, carb bands shouldn’t use OEM either.
If you keep the circumference as uniform and tight as possible, you reduce uncertainty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doing a thorough OEM carb overhaul gets expensive.
Without specific instructions, I do “assess and overhaul” as needed.

Honestly, “replace if it works” <\/span><\/strong>isn’t really my style.
If there’s no safety risk, I can usually tell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Float valve components are healthy.
Just replace the O-rings and gaskets, clean everything thoroughly, and you’ll get great performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently I’ve gotten good at applying adhesive cleanly with a syringe, and I’m really happy about it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
