Well, as the miles pile up on this used Inazuma 1200, certain things start to bug me.

The engine feel is sluggish, to put it mildly.
I mean, is this thing really advanced? It feels rough and unpleasant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wait! That’s it! Let me dig into my distant memory… <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

It’s not about material removal. The pickup rotor’s protrusion angle is subtly different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s hard to see when overlaid, but when you do overlay them… wow! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inazuma 1200\/GS1200SS\/Bandit 1200: 7 degrees\/1200 RPM
GSF1200\/GSX-R1100: 13 degrees\/1200 RPM

These ignition timing figures are angles before top dead center.
In the original state, the spark fires at 7 degrees before reaching TDC.
After the swap, it fires at 13 degrees (+6 degrees) earlier.



This means the engine ignites more rhythmically as RPM climbs.
With Watanabe ignition (I remember this from my GSF days), advancing it felt better.
Before Watanabe existed, people used to slot the three holes in the signal generator to advance the timing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what’s the actual effect? Well…

I’m pretty sure the 1200 series definitely feels better with this installed.
The throttle response is snappier, and downshifts are much more responsive.
The engine pulls better through the rev range, so that sluggish feeling is largely gone\u2014it’s smooth and very satisfying.
I wish it came with this from the factory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
