It’s a matter of tenths of a millimeter, so we’ll shave it down gradually.
If we overdo it, it won’t move when tightened… oh dear, we need to be careful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shaving here and shaving there… it’s a matter of wanting to make it work as long as possible.
Going with a bearing-equipped unit would be faster, but there are issues with pedal arm length and angle, so picking from off-the-shelf options might be a bit tricky. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the shaft and the ball joint have bent.
If you push and pull as straight as possible, there shouldn’t be any wasted force. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rear brakes these days are mostly ball joints too. Just because it’s a ball joint doesn’t mean it’s okay to use it at an angle. Depending on how you use it, the results can be pretty disappointing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned earlier, which part should we protect?

Basically, a cover is most effective on the part you want to avoid wearing down or scratching.
It’s faster to buy a shift rod than to make one, and it even comes with anodizing…
