The work over the weekend just doesn’t progress at all…

I cleaned, lubricated and adjusted the stem bearing.
It’s pretty old, sticky grease. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swapping the upper seal for a Bandit 1200 one would be even better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fork oil was pretty dirty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stroke section of the inner tube gets shiny from contact wear.
I think a dimpled or honed finish on sliding surfaces causes less damage to the oil seal than a polished one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I chuck it in the lathe with a soft chuck and polish it by hand… (tedious) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a bit hard to see, but this is what the finish looks like. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The oil seal press-fit area sometimes has corrosion.
If it’s not clean, the oil seal won’t press in smoothly.

If you have to force it in at full power, something’s wrong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that next time and beyond we can work smooth and mild, being kind to both the machine and ourselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
