I replaced the engine damper\u2014the newer type? It was pretty worn down.
I wonder if this will eventually disappear too… that’s scary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you remove the engine damper without taking off the muffler?

That’s probably what anyone who’s done this work before would think.
To remove the frame-side mount, I use these three tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stahlwille 27-14X17 starter wrench <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I heat an 8mm PB hex wrench, bend it to shape, cut it, apply 3M heat shrink tubing, thread it through the hollow axle shaft, and crack it loose!

Nothing more, nothing less… it’s the strongest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, some scuffing had developed. For now, I’m keeping it as is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got the impression that the owner did regular oil changes and didn’t overheat it very often. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this… head cover gasket with liquid sealant.
Oil leaks are from gasket deterioration.
If applying it could prevent leaks, that might be good.

But is it really effective? I doubt anyone has done statistics on dozens of bikes with and without it.
Removing it is a hassle, which means it becomes a paid service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s really a hassle. Applying is easy, removing is hard\u2014that’s true for everything.
Basically, if you don’t need to use chemicals, it’s best not to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I suspect rubber head cover gasket leaks are mainly caused by rubber hardening from excessive heat, like overheating.
Applying sealant won’t help as insurance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The casting surface is rough… or so it seems. Suzuki. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suzuki head cover gaskets are well-made and fit snugly without falling out.
No sealant is needed during assembly to prevent dropping. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The oil line gasket on the top of the head cover uses copper.
It doesn’t deform or change shape easily, so it’s excellent.

I personally never use the OEM one because it deforms easily and leaks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
