Lately, this is a seriously tricky job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On oil-cooled 1200cc models, this is fitted to the Bandit 1200 and GS1200SS.
Maybe Suzuki wanted to meet emissions standards without putting a catalytic converter in the muffler?
We’re really grateful that the stock muffler has no cat (no catalytic converter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bent-pipe component is installed in the spot where I’m pointing.
On a fully-faired bike it’s probably fine, but on an oil-cooled model you can see it from outside.
If it’s been removed during inspection, it gets caught right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, this is a device to clean up exhaust emissions, so even if the emissions test passes, removing it means an automatic fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most important pipe assembly.
If it’s discontinued and we had to custom-make this one, how much would you charge?
We probably wouldn’t even take the job anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I figured I could just put it back if needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s good if you have the original, but… when will parts stop being available?
Or they could end up costing a fortune\u2014one or the other.

At the inspection office I often use, they’ve been checking the secondary air system pretty regularly lately.
If you’ve removed the secondary air system, you definitely need to be careful going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For heavy-duty use like maintenance work, I definitely recommend P-TOUCH.

Seriously… this person’s muffler work is incredible.

Anyone who’s ever removed an aftermarket muffler knows that usually the fit is sloppy or the gaps are loose to let debris escape.
So that’s how we finished it up!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
