Yesterday, a rubber rope under tension came loose and the metal hook on the end struck hard right above my eye\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The area above my eye is cut, swollen up like crazy, and it hurts like hell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I look around with just my right eye\u2026
about one-fifth of my lower field of vision looks kind of grayish?

My eye isn’t bloodshot, but it’s throbbing.
This gives me a bad feeling\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The lower one-fifth of my right eye where it was struck appears gray (light still passes through) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To exaggerate the image, it’s something like this.

If I move my eyes up, down, left, or right, the gray disappears and I think maybe there’s nothing?
But it still seems off\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it doesn’t disappear when I pull down my lower lid = it’s a problem inside the eye.
I need to get checked right away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even when I close my eye, I see gray below\u2026 I’m getting worried <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I have a throbbing pain\u2014I’m not sure if it’s above the eye or in the eyeball itself.
All I can do is ice it\u2026

Even with my eyes closed\u2026 wait\u2026 I still feel like that grayish thing is down there.
Whether I open or close my eyes, it’s there\u2026

This is a problem\u2026 (starting to panic a bit) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tests for fundus, intraocular pressure, corneal curvature, refraction, and more <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The next morning, I went to my regular eye doctor.
Since I’ve been going there for years, they have all my past eye images on file and showed them to me.
Being able to compare against past images lets them spot things other clinics might miss.

They put in dilating drops and took images as part of the exam.
The result: eye contusion and retinal concussion have caused retinal edema (swelling) right now.
It should heal naturally on its own, but to be safe, I should come back one or two more times to confirm the retinal edema (swelling) is going down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I realized is
eyes really are serious\u2026 eyes are\u2026 really serious.

By evening, my pupils finally returned to normal and things started to look almost okay.
