This mysterious ailment leaves no choice but to replace the harness…
Such a thing? It seems possible, yet impossible… What do you think? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it’s a modern bike with a harness three to five times as complex as a carbureted bike, I’d have to throw in the towel.

But I think the ignition system on a carbureted bike doesn’t need to go through the harness at all\u2014it could run on a separate circuit…
Conversely, when troubleshooting, running it on a separate circuit lets you eliminate one possible cause.
(For a full-fairing four-cylinder two-coil setup) <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Ignition coil <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Power to one coil comes from
\u2022 ON12V
\u2022 Electricity from the igniter
.
ON12V is supplied directly from the battery via D-UNIT+ <\/a>, and the igniter-to-coil connection bypasses the harness entirely by running external wiring directly to the igniter.
This completes the coil wiring without going through the harness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Igniter <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I’ll skip the overly technical stuff.
\u2022 ON12V
\u2022 Ground
\u2022 Signal from pickup *2 lines
\u2022 Power to IG coil *2 lines (for the 2 coils mentioned above) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ON12V and ground can both be supplied from D-UNIT+ as well. <\/a>
Connect the pickup directly to the connector and supply it to the igniter.
The IG coil is already wired as described above. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waterproof connectors are a hassle, but building a solid external harness and testing it lets you eliminate one possible cause.

If you keep saying it’s too much trouble to build, that mysterious ailment will never go away.
If you do it right, the ignition system will definitely get a refresh compared to the old harness.
A bike stuck with mysterious problems might benefit from a complete reset.

*Since it’s a pain, we don’t tackle these mysterious ailments for anyone but existing customers…
