First, let me check the plugs.
All four are pitch black.

Suzuki’s small-displacement ignition systems from this era have a bit of a reliability issue in my experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently we’ve been recommending NGK MOTO DX for C plugs. <\/a>
* Unfortunately, only C TYPE is available. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mark the hex socket width in a couple of places with a number.

First, I’ll do a quick check to see if there’s a good spark.

If there’s spark, the coil, wire, and igniter are provisionally ruled out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I replace all the fuses.
They don’t cost much. It’s sure to help\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I polish the battery terminals and connectors.
I’m systematically ruling out the simple stuff. Even if there’s no problem, it’s worth doing everything you can. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I supply fuel from an external source.
This lets me rule out any issues with the fuel tank or petcock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I check the compression\u2014something I’d rather not see.
Why? Because low compression is always a shock\u2026

Cylinders 1-2-3-4 cold reading. Cylinder #3 is unusually low.
If the valve clearance is tight and the valve is being held open, that would be fine, but\u2026
Who knows. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
