Let’s do some rear maintenance (to the extent we can).

By the way, you can pretty much assume that nearly all the parts around the swing arm link on this GSX-R750 GR71 are shot (\uff1b\u2200\uff1b) <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

We use a frame stand to lift the rear.
Frames with an undertube are extremely effective for this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wish they’d sell this commercially already\u2026\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We start taking things apart.
The neutral switch has wiring coming out like I’ve never seen before\u2014did the original spec have a gear position indicator? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll use the cleaner rear suspension that you brought in (‘\u03c9’)\u30ce <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We measure just the SPG set length. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For its year, the condition was pretty good. The swing arm scratches were there from the start. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, the bearings you brought in are completely wrong.
Good thing we didn’t remove them~ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since these are all standard parts, please look up the part numbers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s best not to use a slide hammer for swing arm bearing replacement. Not only does it look rough, but there’s a high chance you’ll destroy the bearing and leave just the outer shell behind.
With a hydraulic punch, you can even use it as a puller. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You do need to make the drift on a lathe, but it lets you remove things very smoothly.
And of course, insertion is equally smooth (^_-)-\u2606 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working in a straightforward, recipe-like manner reduces mistakes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aluminum and anodized products actually respond surprisingly well to carburetor cleaner.
Spray it on and scrub with a soft Scotch pad, and\u2014surprise!\u2014you get a surprisingly clean finish.
*The photo shows engine conditioner, but it works about the same.* <\/a>*Don’t use this on painted items.*
