OEM parts are wonderful things that provide stable quality, supply, and pricing around the world.
In recent years, discontinued items have been on the rise, which is a bit of a headache, but with the power of the Internet, it’s become much easier to research and obtain parts than it used to be, wouldn’t you say?

I’ve never seen anyone actually say “HEY SIRI”… or is it just me? <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Well,
in this 21st century, I could easily write “Just Google it!” and tell you to figure it out yourself, but… I’d like to share some of the fun ways to enjoy OEM parts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You don’t know the pitch of the fuel cock… or whether it’s even usable…
This technique works with other parts too.

Imagine the shape from O-ring, packing, and gasket part numbers.
Using this method, you can get hints about whether various things like engine covers, fuel cock shape and pitch, and even carburetor body compatibility will work.

Looking at the image above, from #3 and #11 you can reverse-search and find similar parts that might work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you have comparison options from the same maker, you can figure out the pivot width. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pivot width is the combined measurement of parts that bottom out between the frame rails.

In the image above, you could just get #4 and #5 and measure them yourself. Or if you own another Suzuki with the same part number, the chances of compatibility jump dramatically.
This method works with wheels too, so give it a try. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can search for aluminum pistons from seal part numbers…
You can also try finding the same caliper from brake pad numbers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it’s brakes, I’d say it’s best not to mess with them carelessly.
There are only a few brake makers, so you can sometimes find what you’re looking for this way.

I’ve given you a light introduction, but if it’s being delivered in normal condition, there’s usually no need to research anything special.
However, the bikes you all own are definitely classics by now.

We’re not living in an era where you can get OEM parts whenever you want them.
“If you think someone will look it up for you, you’re dead wrong.”
No matter who does it, it takes time. First, you should research your own bike yourself.

That said, some people show up with mountains of research that makes absolutely no sense, which is also a problem…
