Painting takes more time on surface preparation than on the actual painting itself… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Painting is such a hassle, and it’s hard to figure out what to charge for it…

The fluid seemed to seep through and the paint peeled off\u2014this is a request to make it look sharp!
There are quite a few details to address.

At this point, we hadn’t noticed the meter stay issue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We noticed when stripping it off, but… the top bridge has anodizing on it, which is a pain to remove.


So we mix glass beads with an appropriate amount of glass chips to increase abrasive power and remove the anodizing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It looks simple, but stripping and polishing together take over two hours…
It’s really tedious and unglamorous (\u00b4\uff1b\u03c9\uff1b`) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We first dry it in the oven, then degrease it, and move on to painting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the painting is done and baking is complete.
When we can do it in-house, we finish it the same day, and the profit margin… well, it’s unclear if it’s high when calculated by hours, but it should be lower in final cost than outsourcing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s more work to do, and considering materials and equipment, whether it’s a plus or minus is unclear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But honestly, if we outsource and wait only to be disappointed, it’s better to do it ourselves\u2014at least we can accept the results.
Plus, if we scratch it during assembly, we can fix it (\u00b4\uff1b\u03c9\uff1b`) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also replaced the bolts with trivalent black. It came together nicely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as we were about to assemble the meter… the stay is all rusty and dirty…
Hmm??? What should we do… Paint it or not? It’s a tough call. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it were mine, I’d paint it, so we’re going with painting…
It’s polishing \u2192 oven \u2192 degreasing \u2192 painting \u2192 baking again (\u00b4\uff1b\u2200\uff1b`) <\/p>\n\n\n\n
