Have you ever talked to someone riding a newer bike (2015 or later) who says the engine is really loud, and when you listen to it…
well, hmm… it’s actually pretty quiet, isn’t it? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of it is being used to older bikes, but basically I think engines are supposed to make a decent amount of noise.
Different manufacturers handle it different ways\u2014some use rubber sound dampening inside the engine cover and so on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cost of reducing noise is pretty significant, isn’t it? What do you think? <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Front master OH.
When brake masters go bad, the feel gets either “clicky” or develops “dead stroke,” which are pretty opposite problems.
This time it was the clicky type\u2014the brake would suddenly engage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So I propose a master OH, but… I always wonder if it actually improves things every time we do the work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was a bit careless checking and taking photos. No problem\u20145\/8 inch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cup starts to give up.

Since hydraulic pressure opens the seal, leaking doesn’t really happen until it’s pretty far gone.
With the seal closing this much, it might be that delicate\u2014which means brakes are scary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This old guy’s hobby is collecting scrap parts.
Someday this information will come in handy…

When would that be? It’s hard to say, but…
it’s useful when you absolutely have to reuse a brake master from an old racer or something that needs an OH.
There’s no point in scrambling to buy parts when the time comes. If you keep them clean and organized, they could become valuable information assets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also put in a master float. (Makes my job easier = bike is safer?)

The right caliper has pretty severe uneven wear.
The piston action was at an acceptable level though.

Only use pad grease when it’s actually needed. The caliper pistons get covered in grease and brake dust, and it’s a pain to clean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seat opener stiffness issue.
There are quite a few moving parts, so even a little stiffness shows up.

Ideally you’d take it all apart, clean it, and reassemble it, but you can also just lubricate it from the outside. This time I lubricated from the outside. (‘\u03c9’)\u30ce <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The breather area getting dirty.

I checked it out. The air cleaner box seems fine for now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stock layout isn’t great. I reversed it and switched the breather hose to a Honda transparent one. (‘\u03c9’)\u30ce

It’s easier to check too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cut the one that doesn’t go in at an angle.
It reduces mistakes and the chance of a customer saying “Hey, there’s a hose that’s not plugged in!” goes way down, so I’d recommend it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I was setting the brake contact, I noticed a little play in the stem, but I’ll look at that later.
