Lately, I’ve noticed the Kawasaki rate is extremely high, don’t you think?
Maybe it’s because it’s May? <\/p>*No deep meaning intended.\n\n\n\n

The news is dominated by <\/strong>“the serious naphtha problem.”
So far, the motorcycle industry hasn’t experienced any major disruptions.
Looking back at history, it’s clear that this is a <\/strong>“niche industry with modest volume” <\/p>that doesn’t easily get hit by major global issues.\n\n\n\n

Alright, the ZRX1200 is back from inspection, so let’s get to work! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today’s maintenance log<\/strong><\/span><\/div>

Vehicle: <\/strong> Kawasaki ZRX1200<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work performed: <\/strong> Front fork oil change and replacement of oil seals and dust seals with new parts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reason for the work: <\/strong> We’re doing this maintenance because we’ve noticed fork oil degradation, but the golden rule is: whenever you remove and disassemble the forks from the frame, you should replace the rubber “oil seals” at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Result: <\/strong> We drained out the filthy, sludgy oil and installed fresh seals and the correct amount of new fork oil. The damping feel is restored, and the nose dive (brake dive) is now perfect\u2014the suspension has been reborn as a premium setup! <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

It’s been a while since we last changed the fork oil. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

That’s how we go about replacing the fork oil.

The timing for fork oil replacement is extremely tricky.
From our perspective as technicians, we often think “wouldn’t it be faster to just do an OH?” <\/span><\/strong>But I completely understand the feeling\u2014there’s no leak, no problems, so
you’d like to just replace the fork oil and be done with it.


The thing is, there’s a chance the fork oil could start leaking right after this work.
To avoid that risk, we also replace the oil seal, dust seal, and clip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fill the fork with oil at full extension \u2192 cap it \u2192 apply compression tension \u2192 heat it
This sequence lets you remove the fork oil seal.

You could even do it with tie-downs if you wanted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
