Don’t you sometimes have work that you’d mentally finished planning derail because of an ordering mistake?

I reflect on this daily (‘\u03c9’)\u30ce<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n


Mondays are usually consumed with ordering work.

Rather than pulling OEM parts and small parts from the parts list each time, I write everything out in Evernote <\/a>and then just copy and paste for future orders.
So the first time I order parts, I need to write it out cleanly so it’s easy to understand later.

With this method, about 80 to 90 percent of parts orders should be problem-free… but
as time goes on, parts get discontinued and so on. Each time that happens, I have to update the version.
When I notice something during ordering or while work is in progress, I jot it down in my notes, but I sometimes forget to input it, so the version doesn’t get updated and I end up repeating the same mistake\u2014I need to be careful about that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, say a Suzuki OEM part gets discontinued but a Kawasaki OEM part can be used as a substitute.
Even with the power of the internet, it takes considerable time and effort to research.
I’d like to just move forward thinking, “It’s discontinued, there’s no spec for it, so let’s reuse it,” but taking a moment to think about it becomes an opportunity to learn all sorts of things.

Like, what kind of clearance does the mounting O-ring have?
You find out which companies distribute the metal and O-rings, learn about surface treatments, and discover all kinds of good information. *Sometimes I get sidetracked looking at Yahoo Auctions…
Basically, when you enjoy researching these things with a sense of wonder, and especially now that the internet makes it easy to look things up,

it all comes down to whether the work you’re doing is enjoyable or not, whether you like it or dislike it.
