We picked up this Bandit 1200 the other day.
Since the delivery date is set, let’s tackle the time-consuming areas first and make steady progress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The wiring is quite a mess.
For folks like this, a must-see? Daytona D-UNIT+ <\/a>\u2014I really recommend giving it a try.
From this D-UNIT+, you can get power and ground from three optional power sources in parallel. (And with a direct-to-battery relay, no less!)

Getting power and ground connections is quite a hassle, isn’t it? Being able to manage fuses too\u2014it’s simply the best. Your existing aftermarket wiring will look so much cleaner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I bet most people think “Wow, there’s so much stuff in there!” when they remove the tank on a Bandit 1200.
If you remove things as complete assemblies, you don’t need to remember how to reinstall them, which makes it easier.
Keeping the work simple is the way to go.

Once the coil and lift control valve and their attached parts come off, it looks like it goes back to the K5 level.
Visually, it looks much cleaner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The air cleaner box is really in the way when you remove the carburetor.
Using an Amazon cargo strap or tie-down band to cinch it tight and hold it in place makes things a bit easier.

This band is
great for securing cargo when loading a bike
perfect for fixing the handlebar area during steering maintenance
handy for hanging awkward parts
useful when there’s no tandem belt for inspection
even works for earthquake-proofing
(‘\u03c9’)\u30ce I ended up ordering more today too… <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While I’m at it, I also picked up this other belt. It might be really useful for hanging the removed fairings and such. <\/a>I’ll try it out and let you know. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll replace the intake manifold too. The Bandit 1200 K6 is now 15 years old.
Rounding it up, bikes from around the ’90s onward really don’t break down anymore. I was just thinking about that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new intake manifold is nice\u2014that fresh rubber feel is great.
There are numbers like 1 or 3 written on the blue marker spots, with two on each side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depending on where they are, tarnished bolts can make the whole bike look dull.
Let’s clean up the small details bit by bit. (We’re replacing them.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s how it went\u2014nice and clean. *I forgot to take a picture, but we did install the grounding cable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We removed the carburetor and are ready to go.
There seems to be a lot of backfiring from cylinders 1-4\u2014I wonder if something was wrong? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
