When strange symptoms pop up on your beloved bike, it’s really troubling.
And on top of that, the symptoms come and go unpredictably. Haven’t you ever had something disappear on its own?

Engine trouble happens sometimes, but haven’t you run into repeated suspension oil leaks?

The inner tubes aren’t that rusty, there’s no bending, not much mileage or time has passed, and it’s stored in a garage under ideal conditions\u2014so why does it leak?
I wonder.
On the flip side, I’ve also come across forks that don’t leak even though they’re ridden constantly, stored outdoors, have spotty rust on the inner tubes, and haven’t been overhauled in years.

When you think about it logically, you’d blame oil seal degradation or damage, increased fork clearance, and so on.
In the end, those things do happen, but I think what really matters is how smoothly you can operate the fork without putting stress on the oil seal.
When the load is too high, things heat up and the parts wear to stabilize themselves. If we can assemble each component so this doesn’t get excessively harsh, we’d get closer to what the manufacturer is aiming for.
