Let me start with an example. Say a new customer comes in with a four-cylinder bike where the exhaust sounds all messed up and one cylinder is running rough.

The owner does their own research online, gives it a shot, asks for advice on social media, and figures out it must be a timing issue, so they ask us to take a look.
Ever run into this kind of situation at a bike shop?

The moment I hear that sound, it’s clearly not a timing issue at all. . . I’m pretty sure something else is wrong. But even when I explain it, the customer is brainwashed into only talking about timing, timing, timing and won’t listen. . . I’ve seen this happen.
Well, these days that would be the end of it. . . . But. . . . Everyone, be careful (*’\u03c9’*)

Not too long ago, I’d just go ahead and adjust the timing right there.
But the condition wouldn’t change, and the customer would be like “Hmm? That’s weird. . . “
The absolute trust goes to the printed text on the internet. We’re just seen as a mechanic, and the whole vibe gets awkward. . . I’m already losing motivation. . . ( \uff9f\u0414\uff9f)

The power to trust the written words of someone you’ve never seen, met, or talked to is amazing. . . I’m genuinely impressed in a quiet way. . .
It’s fine to use things as reference, but don’t swallow them whole.
Use them as reference first, then chew on it yourself and make your own judgment. That’s better. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on in the world these days.
If you think the user perspective is Neverland, you might be dead wrong.
