Oil-cooled models like the Bandit 1200 and GS1200SS, with registration type codes beginning with BC-, require exhaust gas testing during inspection.
Whether the inspection passes or fails matters, but removing this system can leave you in an impossible situation down the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me jump straight to the conclusion.

Secondary air <\/em>injection system (secondary air introduction device)\u2014an exhaust emission control device <\/em>(hereafter secondary air)\u2014if removed, is making motorcycle inspection increasingly difficult these days.
Especially on oil-cooled bikes, the engine is fully visible, so the presence or absence of secondary air is easy to spot. Like <\/em>the catalytic converter in a muffler, on emissions-test vehicles, changing a component from present to absent is a problem. <\/p>It’s not about whether the emissions test passes or fails.\n\n\n\n

Problems if you remove it
\u2022 Secondary air parts may no longer be supplied by Suzuki (especially the four pipes)
\u2022 If you’ve discarded them, you may need custom fabrication (increased cost)
\u2022 Inspection fails the moment you remove it (emissions test results are irrelevant) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If all secondary air parts become discontinued and you can’t restore them, you won’t be able to pass inspection anywhere in the country. This applies to owners and shops alike.
Removing secondary air won’t deliver any dramatic performance gains. I think it would be better to keep it and use it for a different purpose instead of just ripping it out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hunting for used ones on Yahoo Auctions is also a good option. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason I’m writing this is
the other day when I went for inspection, I saw an oil-cooled bike from another shop get flagged for missing secondary air.
This isn’t someone else’s problem, I thought.

Obviously you’d have to go back, and if the shop doesn’t have the parts, you’re stuck\u2014inspection won’t pass. And if OEM parts are discontinued, it’s even worse and incredibly frustrating.
If you bought used and it was already removed, the same applies, so be careful.
Otherwise, check with the shop that’s been servicing it or the one handling your inspection and get them to say “you’re all good”\u2014that might give you peace of mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Decoboco, if your secondary air has been removed, future inspections will incur an additional charge.
We’re looking at around \u00a515,000. I’d recommend hurrying to source the parts and restore the secondary air system.
*It’s ridiculous, but I’ve already bought everything… ( \uff1b\u2200\uff1b) This is an investment before you get burned.
