The leak source: shift shaft oil seal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This spot tends to leak quite a bit.
The outer diameter is small relative to the inner diameter, and the oil seal is thin.
It seems like a structural flaw… typical Kawasaki.

And they use that weird metal-shell seal design… I hate it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The STRAIGHT seal puller I raved about the other day didn’t budge against Kawasaki’s metal shell…
My usual homemade slide hammer also struggled…



So I made an attachment to fit the STRAIGHT puller tip and did the work this time.
The result was a huge success! This is turning out to be a really useful tool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I pulled out the oil seal, oil came pouring out\u2014I panicked. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s totally different from Suzuki… I was caught off guard.

Anyway, I’m glad it came out safely! (*\u00b4\u03c9\uff40*)
Now future work will go much smoother. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re not confident removing it from the outside, it’s better to remove the cover.
But then again, that increases the work by five times… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I applied fluorine grease to the lip section, so there shouldn’t be any issues for a while.
Rubber seals go in by hand, but metal-shell ones need to be tapped in.

This OEM oil seal is a bit questionable, so I’ll look for a replacement from another manufacturer.
There’s some depth to it, so I’d like to gain a bit more clearance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, I decided to test out a dedicated tool that’s been highly rumored in the mechanic community: the Seal Puller from the Japanese tool brand “STRAIGHT”. Using leverage, the tool is designed to hook under the seal and pop it out without damaging the engine case. Verdict:<\/strong> Using the right tool changes everything!
