This is another beautiful GSX-R1100M in great condition.

As well-preserved examples become rarer, it’s more about nurturing the one you have.
It’s got what looks like an RK carburettor on it for some reason, but there’s definitely a story there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

It was tough getting it off this time\u2014I even gave my right wrist a mild sprain.

I was genuinely nervous, thinking it would never come loose. Now I’ll clamp it to the carburettor stand and go at it with the Makita, grinding away! Time to disassemble. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some reason, the drain\u2014or rather the MJ\u2014has an easy-swap cap. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s got a nice coating of blowback gunk on it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The butterfly side was still in pretty good shape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s got an old-school power jet, but it’s blocked off so we’re removing it.
By the way, the hose is completely brittle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a little rust in one spot, but nothing to worry about. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Took the four-barrel completely apart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One spot got crushed to bits along with the hose. I’ll fix that up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the first time I thought an NJ wouldn’t come out. The MJ spun along with it, and I thought I’d have to cut it, but by holding the anti-rotation pin and turning carefully, it finally came loose.

I’m not sure if it was over-tightened or seized, but either way it was stubborn.

The fuel passage seal was also at its limit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That mystery intake manifold bolt was a pain to remove too\u2014the neck is just too short.
Anyway, glad there was nothing wrong with it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recent issue of it leaking when hot\u2014probably that.

I think it’s the fuel sensor seal. That said, the sensor itself looks pretty new. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was loose, as it turned out. Applying oil stone would give us extra peace of mind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fluorine grease gives both sealing and lubrication, so I thought it might work well and gave it a try.

The engine side is capped for now and on hold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve polished two of them so far.

Maybe this is what they looked like thirty years ago?
