The GSX series has the 750E, which boasts unwavering popularity.

There are quite a few variants, so it’s a bit niche. <\/a>I’m quietly fond of this engine.
When you convert it to a direct carburetor with vacuum, I’ve been thinking lately, “you really can’t underestimate it.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the troublesome symptom comes and goes, let’s eliminate things one by one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

First, we’ll replace the ignition coil. 33410-31311 (90 mm pitch)
The standard options are 90 mm and 102 mm.

This GSX750E is 102 mm, but the original borrowed coil was 90 mm with a support bracket.
I thought installing the 102 mm would be the cleanest approach, so I started tapping away, and then…
“Discontinued!” came the announcement.

Well, 102 mm is pretty niche anyway, I thought, but I was sure it had to be available somewhere. After searching without success, I ended up ordering the 90 mm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I could order the OEM cap, but… that “NGK logo” is irresistible for my generation, so I patrolled the NGK website and XD05F<\/a> is what I decided to use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NGK website <\/a>seems harder to navigate these days. Maybe it’s just me getting used to it… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The length is fine, but the angle is slightly different… (getting a bit worried)

It turned out okay, so we’re good! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought about making a new one, but… I figured why not and reused it.

The terminals looked a bit sketchy, so I cut them and made new ones. I’m in the camp that uses heat shrink tubing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Threading the cap onto the plug wire is always a pain, isn’t it?

If you use something sharp like a scribe to poke a pilot hole in the center, it becomes super easy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s how we finished the layout. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also labeled the coils with P-TOUCH so they’re easy to identify. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I checked to make sure the centrifugal governor is working.
It’s good to occasionally verify that the spring is functioning.

But this spring seems like it should be a consumable item… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These days, the chances to use a timing light have dropped dramatically…
The batteries being D-cell is such a pain. I’m making do with an Eneloop <\/a>converter and using it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just to be safe, I also checked the charging voltage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surprisingly, a DR7EA… I was in a hurry so I ordered from Yodobashi, and it arrived the same day. Amazing!
