Vehicle:<\/strong> Suzuki GS1000S (Cooley Replica)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Features:<\/strong> A replica model of “Wes Cooley,” who dominated AMA Superbike racing in the late 1970s. With its striking blue and white livery and bikini fairing, it stands as the pinnacle of Suzuki’s air-cooled liter bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work:<\/strong> Engine tappet (valve clearance) adjustment. Measure the gap on each valve with a thickness gauge and replace with shims of the appropriate thickness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Result:<\/strong> The annoying mechanical “clacking” noise disappears, and the air-cooled engine’s original smooth and powerful throttle response is restored!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I do like these 70-80s bikes, but “there’s a high chance of running into problems.”<\/span><\/strong>

The thickness gauge is also very thin, so you have to slide it in at an angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This special tool is excellent.
Suzuki, being the later entrant, really took a different approach than Kawasaki.
No scratches, works with just forward rotation, it’s perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cam lobes look good too.
I deliberately didn’t measure the valve timing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, the cam holder isn’t tightened… or rather, there are no threads?
One spot.
There was extra depth, so I switched to a longer bolt and barely made it safe.
With classic bikes, bolt removal is really scary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Servicing a Legend: Valve Clearance Adjustment on a Suzuki GS1000S Cooley Replica.<\/span><\/div>

Vehicle:<\/strong> Suzuki GS1000S (Wes Cooley Replica). A true masterpiece of air-cooled Suzuki engineering, famous for its blue\/white livery and AMA Superbike heritage. Work:<\/strong> Valve clearance (tappet) adjustment. Details:<\/strong> To bring out the best in this classic engine, I opened the head cover and carefully measured the valve clearances using a thickness gauge. I then calculated and replaced the shims to achieve the perfect factory specifications. It’s tedious work that is tough on the eyes, but absolutely essential. Verdict:<\/strong> The annoying mechanical ticking noise is gone! The legendary 1000cc air-cooled engine now sounds incredibly smooth and powerful, just as it should.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
