The other day I happened to read an article like this…

“June street-corner sentiment shows major improvement, largest gain since February 2002”
Wow!!!… but that doesn’t really happen…

It’s just that an incredibly bad situation got a little better? But it’s positive, which is nice.

I thought this feeling applies to motorcycles too.
I’m also happy to hear the owner’s joy after I finish the work.

But the bike came in in such bad shape that it’s just returned to normal
Exactly! The largest gain?

It’s hard to show a tangible improvement from work when the bike seems basically normal or has low mileage.

The problem with fitting a Honda grip heater to a Suzuki handlebar switch is that it doesn’t work well.

On the throttle sleeve of the accelerator
there’s an important mechanism where the stopper on the switch side makes contact to achieve “click! Complete OFF!”

When you swap it to Honda, the stopper on the throttle side no longer makes contact, so
I usually modify the switch side.

This time the stopper stopped engaging, so we need to do something about it.

There was a plan to swap in a Honda switch, but considering the risk of falling into hell with accelerator cable selection, I’ll go with the safer approach.

I made it thinner by chopping off the switch\u2014a tactic that was wildly popular back in the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m going with the Active throttle holder strategy to make it work.

Active aluminum throttle holder TYPE-1: black (compatible inner diameter \u03c628\u201344) 1060145<\/a>

Active has lots of different holders, but you should choose carefully.
Basically, something that comes off quickly and has good serviceability is better.

For me, TYPE-1 is the standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bit niche, but DIY throttle cables are surprisingly useful.<\/a>
\u2022 Making them is a pain
\u2022 The carburettor side won’t be free-play

There are drawbacks like these, but since you can make them, you don’t have to worry about layout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s almost zero clearance above the carburettor. The stock cable also has a 90-degree bend, so I want to reuse it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today it’s another “what am I doing?” kind of situation. I made a carburettor-side holder with the A+B strategy.

But the crimping tool got stuck and won’t come out, so I can’t insert it, so I’ll fix it with a different method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Shimano TL-CT10 is discontinued… it’s now the TL-CT12 (\u00b4\uff1b\u03c9\uff1b`)<\/a>

With bicycles, cable cutting and fabrication is routine. You can cut cleanly, so it’s good to have one in your toolbox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, I covered it with 4:1 shrink tubing.

It looks pretty good too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if you melt the potato, you can only cut it\u2014it’s that solid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s how it turned out. I managed to make it look pretty stock.

The ultra-low-profile cap in the right image\u2014I tried a bit, but it didn’t work, so it’s blind now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I got the accelerator cable out, but it’s so tight there’s no way it’s going in, so I removed the carburettor for now.

Once this is done, it’ll go fast. To be continued.
