Suzuki bikes tend to have the frame and fairing in the same color pretty often, right? The paint lines are definitely supposed to match.

Are they committed to cutting costs? Consumers get to cheer about it, I guess?


I’ve been seeing a lot of GSF1200s lately. Haven’t they dried up yet?
By the way, the coolest part of the GSF1200 is the frame. The tank comes in second, I’d say.

I feel like I was doing something similar yesterday.

I quickly disassembled the fork. The smell was pretty intense\u2014I thought an earthquake might be coming! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fork oil color is pretty dark too.

The inside of the bottom is rusted quite a bit\u2014pretty rough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do I love convenience store bags (size 45) that much? Probably not.

We always keep them in stock. We use the minimum amount of stripper and shake it in the bag so it doesn’t scatter everywhere.

It’s kind of like a quick pickle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time passes… and the polishing is done.

Since it’s pretty big, it takes about two hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inner tube looked fine too. There’s a little rust, but it’s not in the stroke area, so we’ll leave it as is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the slurp-slurp, we vacuum it down, adjust the oil level, and we’re done! \u2605 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now let’s lubricate the stem.

It looks like it was replaced recently, so the grease is nice and plentiful.

The bearings in the race cup have been changed too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The lower seal isn’t in here~” was discovered when we saw grease dripping at intake.

We pulled the lower race with a puller… and the finish turned out pretty sharp. Good timing, maybe? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should I put the seal back in or polish it a little? That’s the moment of hesitation.

If it were mine, I’d polish it. That’s the kind of timing I think it is, so let’s move forward steadily. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rust went all the way around, so I started wondering if it was even welded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course not… As bikes get older, rust travels to all sorts of places, so it’s scary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll replace both the bottom and top. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GSF1200 has the same plastic cover as the GS1000 era.
You can use parts from a Bandit1200 and such, so I recommend it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suzuki stem seal 51643-40503 has a nice feel and works really well.

The wheel bearing seal, though… I’m not so sure about.
*It grips so hard you can’t turn it by hand, and the steel collar wears down before it even seats properly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The race condition looks fine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think the responsibility falls on whoever touched it last, so I’m being thorough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clean up the fender and check that the axle shaft spins smoothly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wheel bearing position was off too, so I adjusted it. We also lubricated the speedometer cable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If at first glance you think “Ugh! I don’t want to touch that!” then clean it up.
