I was thinking, “How many Z bikes are you going to swap through?” and the answer came back: it’s gotta be a Z1!

That’s deep. Smoke was pouring out from around the headlight area too, so the request is to replace all the electrical wiring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Looking at the parts to be replaced… I always feel a bit deflated.

It’s like doing a puzzle, you know? Let’s start with the headlight, which is supposedly the easy part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I lightly polished the thin rust on the inside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The burned area is at the right switch connection point.

The cause is unclear, but there’s DIY work all over the place, so it might be from that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m removing everything that needs to come off.

The harness is pretty minimal\u2014I’m like, seriously? That’s classic old bike for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I adjusted the gap using the play in the mount. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plugs #3 and #4 are slightly black. Since we’re installing the Watanabe, I’m checking and adjusting the gap.
But they were already adjusted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The customer also requested a meter replacement.

I’m wondering if the meter mount is rigid\u2014feeling the mystery of the Z. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more you take apart, the more unsettling it gets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An imported gasket was installed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cut looks kind of odd… I’m a bit concerned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it wasn’t specifically requested, I’ll track down the source of the leak and seal it up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plating doesn’t look great\u2014there are droplet-like bumps and raised edges.

I worked through it carefully, so it should be fine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
