Doesn’t it feel like the end of the year is barely here in 2019?

I’m just thinking along the lines of there being a long holiday coming up next week. The super popular GSX-R750 (GR71)\u2014this bike is really clean, you know? I’m genuinely impressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The request is to remove the rear cowl using fasteners. We’ll install it in a way that’s not a hassle.
We fixed it by clamping it to the existing bracket.
These are the usual DZUS fasteners. <\/a>They’re also carried by places like Monotaro. Considering shipping, Monotaro might be the better deal. (Though delivery takes longer.)

The merit of DZUS fasteners is that the shank comes in 1 mm increments from 9 to 25 mm, so it’s really convenient.

I also got a bit greedy and bought a cheap set, but then it’s like “Oh! It’s loose” or “Oh! It doesn’t reach”\u2014the world isn’t that kind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s working hard\u2014we even added a radius to the edge of the bracket. How many times did they bend this single piece? It’s amazing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It turned out to be a nice clearance hole, so we’ll reuse it.

Once we fit the clip and tack weld it, it won’t rotate, so that should be secure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The F1 cowl fits the early model too\u2014nice! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please don’t say anything about the D-ring orientation depending on the other side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, manufacturers don’t make parts like this, so I figured it’s probably a standard component.

But the shank length was out of spec. (The OEM one is longer.)

They’re crimped pretty solidly\u2014the OEM part is real steel, which is reassuring.

I worked it with a drill to avoid melting the cowl. (Watch out for chatter.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found the P28 receiver\u2014or so I thought… but why is it 2.6 mm?

I ended up having to enlarge all ten holes with a rotary tool bit by bit.
