Air-cooled engines from this era really are something special, aren’t they? The people who created designs that are still loved after all these years deserve tremendous credit.

We start with maintenance. The front is equipped with a Brembo caliper.
The caliper support uses SS Itoh brand <\/a>.

The caliper support has so many settings that I always get lost on their website… <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The rear caliper also needed cleaning, and I have to say, every time I work on a bike where you can’t remove the caliper without taking off the rear wheel, I wonder what they were thinking… but that’s just how things were back then.

The dust buildup fit is a bit questionable. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The ribs on the groove where the dust boot sits have become deformed. At this point, I think we can do without it… <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Since water tends to collect there, we’re going to run without the dust boot this time. As long as we keep a close eye on it, there shouldn’t be any issues. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We also checked the rear wheel bearings while we were at it. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We applied gun coat to the rusty spots for a bit of dress-up. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We switched to CCI Golden Cruiser Brake Fluid DOT4.  <\/a><\/em>
By the way, it’s made by the same manufacturer as Metal Rubber, which we trust completely. <\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This rear master tank… you can’t see inside it at all.

The capacity is so large I can’t believe it was ever used as original equipment.

It looks like it’s from a Yamaha WR250F (part number 5UN-2583V-00). <\/a> \u2190 CMS makes it easy to purchase parts from overseas. (Some are pricey, and discontinued parts do show up sometimes.)
The pulsar cover for the GSX-R750RK used to be stocked at CMS, though it’s gone now.
It seems perfect for weekend patrols too… <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
