It&#8217;s an amazing machine that changes into anything when you swap the fairings. <br>Back in the GSF\/Inazuma\/GS-SS era, the timing just wasn&#8217;t right, you know? If it had come a bit later&#8230; maybe it would have been a massive seller? <br>We&#8217;ve got an oil-cooled maintenance job. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00189.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43992\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00188.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43993\"\/><figcaption>The head cover bolts were coming loose. Three of them were stripped. <br>A shop job, huh? One of them was&#8230; well, if you can&#8217;t do it right, you shouldn&#8217;t touch it in the first place. <br>With DIY, you watch videos online and they make it look &#8220;easy! Just this!&#8221; but it&#8217;s usually a sweet trap\u2014don&#8217;t fall for it. <br>*I&#8217;ve drunk plenty of hot oil myself and gotten badly burned. <br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC_9835.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43994\"\/><figcaption>This one happens to be an odd size: M7-P1.00. Before we install the helicoil, we drill a pilot hole at 7.3 (took forever finding a 7.3 drill bit), then run the helicoil tap. <br><br>You can do it on a drill press too, but a drill press moves up and down, side to side, and the head swivels&#8230; I&#8217;m always wondering if it&#8217;s really going to be okay. <br>Having the bolt face perfectly perpendicular gives you absolute peace of mind. <br><br>If you make a threaded guide and tap while keeping it flush against the seating surface, you&#8217;ll have fewer failures. <br>*Don&#8217;t tell me you just chuck it straight in the vise&#8230; I wasn&#8217;t thinking clearly. A light grip is fine. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC_9837.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43995\"\/><figcaption>We installed it as deep as we could. It slides in smoothly by hand\u2014now we&#8217;re confident. <br>The head cover bolts have a shoulder that bottoms on the cam holder, so tightening won&#8217;t actually compress the gasket. That&#8217;s why if you crank down hard thinking &#8220;it&#8217;ll stop when it&#8217;s tight,&#8221; you&#8217;ll strip the threads. Applying grease seems to reduce wear on the case side too. It doesn&#8217;t look like it&#8217;s been overheated much, so I&#8217;m reassured. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00217.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44016\"\/><figcaption>Let&#8217;s check the synchronization. At this level, adjustment wouldn&#8217;t be necessary, but&#8230; while we&#8217;re at it <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00219.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44017\"\/><figcaption>We adjusted it. The adjustment screws only move 1\/16 or 1\/4 turn\u2014it&#8217;s basically all tolerance and play. If you rev hard and work the throttle aggressively, you&#8217;ll see a mark or two of movement. <br>I don&#8217;t think this is a spot to be overly fussy about. <br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00216.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44018\"\/><figcaption>New plugs, but they&#8217;re a bit sooty. Let&#8217;s keep an eye on it. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC00221.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-44019\"\/><figcaption>The tank mounting screws were also stripped, so we helicoiled them. <br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kssc.co.jp\/lp\/tangless\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_campaign=02_s_04_helisert\">Tangless helicoil <\/a>\u2014there&#8217;s such a thing. Normal helicoils are a bit hard to install and you have to break off and remove the tang, which takes time, effort, and carries risk. Honestly, it&#8217;s a pain. <br>With a closed cavity (like a box-section frame), you can&#8217;t always retrieve the broken tang, so there can be unexpected debris left behind that the customer never knows about. <br><br>To put it simply: <br>&#8220;installs with almost no failure rate (maybe 1 miss in 1000 tries)&#8221; <br>&#8220;no tang removal needed&#8221; <br>\u2014zero risk.
