The sidestand was about to break off, so we did a tire change and repair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

We started with a straightforward tire change. It’s a manual changer, but I can’t go back to the lever anymore! If I made a category for things worth buying, it would be fun, but there are so many secret items that I’ll skip it. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We protected the surrounding area and checked the extent of the cracks. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The patch attached to the undertube appears to be coming off. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

About a third of it is already detaching. Classic 1980s “bug leg sidestand.” Since it sticks out, there’s constant force pushing it to break off. If you drop it straight down, it would be “shorter, lighter, longer-lasting, and better lean angle on the stand side.” I’d like to remake it using the base, but this time we’re just doing a repair.

At my skill level, this tight space is really tough. I’ll do my best in a squat position. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I welded as much as I could, but it’s still not enough. We’ll reinforce it with an additional patch. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

I cut out two pieces of about 5mm steel plate to fit perfectly. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Then we weld the patches to the stand base and patch, and it becomes rock solid.
Next time it fails, maybe we’ll go with a quick-detach stand? <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
