I thought I heard a ticking sound before removing the tank.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46031\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730856.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730857.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nFirst, the lever area. A little cleaning and lubrication now and then gives you that satisfying snap when it engages and snaps back\u2014really nice operation.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46033\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730858.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe throttle is pretty rusty. We&#8217;ll scuff it and coat it with rust preventative before reassembling.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46034\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730859.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe speedometer cable. Completely dry and rusty. With used bikes, checking these things early on makes a real difference.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46035\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730860.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe brake pedal. This one&#8217;s also pretty much bone dry.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46036\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730861.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThis cast-iron caliper. Even after washing, it doesn&#8217;t get that clean, so we figured we might as well take it apart and check it out.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46037\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730866.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46038\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730867.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nLike new<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46039\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730862.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730868.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s faster and cleaner than just scrubbing it by hand. We&#8217;re reminded every day how important good equipment is.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46041\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730869.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe rear support came out looking beautiful all at once.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46042\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730870.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe tapered joint on the nipple is another spot we want to clean up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46043\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730871.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nWe brush on metal rubber and reassemble.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46044\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730878.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730880.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46046\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730881.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nWe do the same with the front\u2014take it apart and clean it up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46047\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_8735.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/DSC_8736.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\"><br \/>\nIt feels really good. Honestly, every time I wonder what we&#8217;re doing, but when everything works properly and looks good, you really grow attached to the bike.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46049\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730884.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe front pads are worn out, so we&#8217;ll replace them. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46050\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730926.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46051\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730927.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nWe clean up the backing plate before reassembling.<br \/>\nWhen the parts are clean, your enthusiasm goes up when you&#8217;re putting it all back together.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46052\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730872.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nWe wipe down any areas we can clean.<br \/>\nOil grime comes right off in a flash if you just wipe it with a rag soaked in cleaning oil.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46053\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730883.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46054\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730874.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll leave the bearings as they are this time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730882.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46056\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730873.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe axle shaft is in good shape.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-46057\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/P1730925.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\">We also replaced the air filter.
