\nThere are marks on the head cover where the chain has made contact. It’s unclear whether this happened recently or long ago.
\nLet’s run it in, paint it, and check again later.<\/p>\n

\nIs the cam a WEB? I adjusted the tappet clearance at four locations.
\nIt’s easy and convenient with external shims.<\/p>\n

\nZ aluminum has low reliability. It loosens in ways you’d never see on a Suzuki. I’ve done a thorough check-over of all the parts.<\/p>\n

\nThe idler is a bit loose and the damper is rattling. Let’s replace both while we’re at it.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nThe cam chain tension is just right. Not too tight, not too loose is best. Keep in mind that the chain itself doesn’t wear evenly.<\/p>\n

\nI’m reusing the bolts, so I polished them and painted the heads to make them look nice.<\/p>\n

\nThe frame damper is rattling and loose, so I’ll replace it with a Suzuki unit.<\/p>\n

\nThe clever bit is the groove cut so the cable tie doesn’t slip. I think it’s best to position it while checking the fit with the tank.<\/p>\n
