\nThis is one of our go-to standard jobs.<\/p>\n

I think the most effective way to lighten the push and pull of a motorcycle is the chain and sprocket, followed by the brakes. Next would be the wheel bearings. DID rolls smoothly right from assembly. Sunstar’s absolute reliability\u2014they handle both OEM and aftermarket work. Safety and peace of mind come first.<\/p>\n

\nThe condition was pretty rough. You might look at it and think “ugh,” but we just buckle down and get it done without complaining.<\/p>\n

\nWe put cleaning solvent in a container<\/p>\n

\ntoss in some old rags, soak them, and just wipe it down. With gloves on, your hands stay clean, so you can really go at it.<\/p>\n

If you dampen it and soften it up, it’s surprisingly not that hard.<\/p>\n

\nThe chain slider might be the most important part. You can clean your socks, but if the floor is dirty, it’s rough.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s better to shake the shaft up and down and side to side to check for play. The countershaft bearing is in a tough spot.<\/p>\n

\nA surprisingly effective trick is to apply thread compound and rust-proof it.
\nUnder all that chain oil gunk, you’d be surprised how shiny the surface comes out, right? We learn from natural rust prevention.<\/p>\n

\nAlways replace the lock nuts. These days they’re black chromate.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nReplace the nuts and lock washers with new ones. It’s better to bend the washer in two or more places.<\/p>\n

\nAir filter replaced with the spare you brought<\/p>\n

\nSpark plug also replaced with JR8B<\/p>\n

\nThe caliper was overhauled before, so it looks great. Operation is excellent too.<\/p>\n

\nFinally, we spray on rust-preventive oil and wipe it down for a nice shine. Let’s keep it in good condition for a long time.<\/p>\n

\nWe replaced the fluid with Golden Cruiser.<\/p>\n

\nWe replace the cap bolt every two or three times.<\/p>\n

\nThe rear brake switch was faulty, so we replaced it.<\/p>\n

After that, a test ride and we’re done.<\/p>\n
