(That&#8217;s the original condition, by the way.)<\/p>\n<p>Older GSXR1000 caliper K3 and master cylinder K5, apparently. I was surprised to learn that master repair kits are discontinued\u2014has it really been that long already?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47611\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700857.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nSeal tape that looks like it might work\u2014or might not.<br \/>\nWhen you install the bleeder cap, fluid seeps out from the side.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, it&#8217;s locked with a taper, so the fluid oozing out is just residual fluid in the nipple bore and threads. After locking, run cleaner through the nipple bore, wrap it with a rag, and blow air through the bore\u2014that should stop it. If air still gets in after that, there&#8217;s a problem with the taper joint.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700863.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47613\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700865.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47614\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700864.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe condition is rougher than I expected. And it&#8217;s not an anodized caliper either.<\/p>\n<p>When brake caliper seals get old\u2026<br \/>\n\u2022 Dust seals and oil seals harden and deform with age.<br \/>\n\u2022 The inside of the seal groove corrodes and pushes the seals inward.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the situation, so no matter how thoroughly you clean and work the seals, it&#8217;s just a temporary fix. If you think things aren&#8217;t improving much, seal replacement and groove cleaning should restore normal performance.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47615\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/DSC_7597.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47616\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/DSC_7598.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\"><br \/>\nSmooth and slick. The prep work is perfect! Now it&#8217;s just assembly from here.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47617\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700873.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThen I give it a quick trip into the oven. Driving off any moisture and getting it completely dry makes a real difference in peace of mind.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47618\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700869.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nJust to confirm\u2014same diameter, four-piston.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700870.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nThe body is clean, so we&#8217;ll reuse it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47620\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700871.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nAlways inspect the seals. I&#8217;ve actually found the wrong seals in a kit before.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no such thing as foolproof. Double and triple checks are what prevent all kinds of problems.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47621\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/P1700872.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"855\"><br \/>\nApply metal-rubber compound\u2014the stuff that makes anyone feel like they&#8217;ve gotten better at OH\u2014and then assemble.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-47622\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/DSC_7600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\"><br \/>\nThat&#8217;s how it goes.
