\nA GSF1200 with low mileage is now quite rare. I have a strong feeling the GSF1200 is heading toward extinction.<\/p>\n

This one came in for an inspection and oil-cooled maintenance.<\/p>\n

\nWhen you lift the rear wheel and hear a “clunk-clunk” sound, there’s a good chance the sprocket nut is loose. Even a five-degree looseness can produce noise, so it’s worth paying attention to.<\/p>\n

We replaced the nut and lock washer with new ones.<\/p>\n

\nGenerator connector. No corrosion\u2014we’re safe. I think it’s a good idea to disconnect it occasionally and spray contact cleaner on the terminals.<\/p>\n

\nDamper carrier. Little buildup\u2014which suggests low mileage? Pretty likely.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nIt had decent elasticity for its age.<\/p>\n

\nYou can’t see it, but doesn’t it feel good to reassemble something that’s been cleaned up?<\/p>\n

I believe that when you blend restoration elements into routine maintenance, a motorcycle just keeps getting better and cleaner.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s just a humble job\u2014attaching a wire brush to a Makita drill.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nClean the hidden spots and apply rust preventative.
\nWe also replaced the starter motor O-ring.<\/p>\n

\nEngine damper replacement. It’s worn down quite a bit. Good timing for this.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nThe case side is pretty gritty. Time to clean it up.<\/p>\n

\n*This is a GS image, but\u2026
\nIf you pack the damper with plenty of grease, the case side doesn’t seem to wear as much. The damper wears down from considerable vibration, so the aluminum casting case has a tough time. Let’s keep it running well for the long haul.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s best to replace lock nuts on critical areas every time.<\/p>\n
