\nAfter a long time without riding, it wouldn’t start after a break near the mountains\u2014but somehow they made it back. That’s some serious skill.<\/p>\n

\nChecking the generated voltage, it’s just over 12V. That’s low, but lucky for us it was enough to get them back.<\/p>\n

Maybe one of the three phases is dead? Let’s start with the regulator\u2014it’s melted and comes off in your hand.<\/p>\n

\nWow, that’s scary. It might be worth checking the charging system once in a while.
\nAfter replacing the connector and terminals, we’re at around 14.5V. That was all it needed, so we’re good.<\/p>\n

\nThe speedometer isn’t working. The cable looks okay though.<\/p>\n

\nThe speed gear teeth are broken and missing. It needs replacement.<\/p>\n

\nReplacing the coolant\u2014the cap is old and loose. Inside is heavily rusted.<\/p>\n

\nUsing tap water for street riding is a no-go. This one looks pretty bad inside\u2014scary stuff.<\/p>\n

\nWe’re replacing the fluid. The color is pretty bad, and the edges are corroded too.<\/p>\n

\nKeeping it clean makes things easier for the next person working on it.<\/p>\n

\nThe cap bolts are worth replacing every other time. Don’t wait until they won’t come out.<\/p>\n

\nWe’ve replaced the fluid.<\/p>\n
