If there&#8217;s enough room to get your hand in, cleaning the chain slider and the underside of the frame will make everything look nice.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48909\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/P1690515.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><br \/>\nThe caliper is still in its bag\u2014sorry about that.<br \/>\nWe clean it as much as we can. Doing so sometimes helps us spot any problems that might be developing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/P1690516.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><br \/>\nThe distance collar was rattling around, so we adjusted it.<br \/>\nIf you hammer the axle hard because it won&#8217;t fit in this condition, you&#8217;ll push the bearing out even more.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s amazing how tough these bearings are\u2014they don&#8217;t fail even in this state.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48911\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/P1690517.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><br \/>\nWhen we remove it, we also clean the shaft hole. Sometimes when too much grease is applied, you get either a sloppy feel or a gritty one.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48912\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/P1690518.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><br \/>\nThe shaft has a slight runout, but it&#8217;s still within acceptable limits.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48913\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/P1690519.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-48914\" src=\"https:\/\/www.decoboco.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/P1690520.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" \/><br \/>\nRear caliper cleaning.<br \/>\n\u2022 Remove dirt<br \/>\n\u2022 Check the piston condition<br \/>\n\u2022 Assess the seal condition by how well the piston retracts<br \/>\n\u2022 Check pad wear<br \/>\nThe calipers clean up nicely, and a little massage brings their performance back to reasonable levels.<br \/>\nHowever, since the seal is rubber, it inevitably deteriorates and becomes hard and stiff.
