\nFirst, the squeaky-squeaky sound seems to be caused by the speedometer gear grinding? That’s unusual. Let’s replace it.<\/p>\n

\nThe oil content is low, but the race was in relatively good condition.<\/p>\n

\nI won’t say it outright, but I tried buying this tool. Those in the know would say “oh, that one,” and I was surprised\u2014it works really well!<\/p>\n

\nI sourced a press-fit race tool\u2014the kind that does it all in one go. It’s quite sharp.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nThis side releases when you pull the lever, so you’re freed from the tedium of endlessly turning a nut like the OEM design. It’s a smooth change with no wrench needed at all.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s reassuring to visually inspect the entire race.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"
\nIt’s good to insert it in this state and check how well the seal works. Some manufacturers have seals that grip the upper and lower really well.<\/p>\n

If you assemble this carelessly thinking it looks good, most will rattle after a few hundred kilometers, so be careful.<\/p>\n

\nI apply my favorite Neutech NC100 grease generously.<\/p>\n

\nThe stem clamp side had quite a bit of corrosion too, so I polished it.<\/p>\n

\nI gave it a light touch-up at the same time.<\/p>\n

\nClean details really boost the finished appearance.<\/p>\n

\nThe angle from hand-tight to already wrong is about this much.
\nWithin the top bridge center nut torque spec and this angle range, there’s a sweet spot.<\/p>\n

\nI’ve done the fork partway through, but it’s in a super weird state, so it’s on hold for now.<\/p>\n
