\nWe’re out of stock at the shop, so we’re waiting for it to arrive.<\/p>\n

With this many kilometers on it, it must have been treated well. There’s almost no scuffing at all. Rocker arm design tends to scuff easily, but I’ve learned that it really depends on how you use it.<\/p>\n

The valve clearances were spot-on except for two spots (and even those were just slightly off).<\/p>\n

\nThere is some sludge buildup in the oil, which is a bit dirty. Given the mileage, it’s probably just accumulated over time. The cam chain tension looked good.<\/p>\n

\nBefore doing the valves, we’ll assemble with the bolts we prepped and finish the head cover.<\/p>\n

\nThe oil level sight window is so dirty you can’t see through it, so they want it replaced.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s press-fit with liquid gasket.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nIf you pry up the liquid gasket a bit and warm it, you can sometimes get it out by hand. This is pretty gross\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nIt’s a standard part, but we’ll go with genuine OEM for peace of mind. GSXR has a specific part number for it.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nOnce we clean the cover side, we’re ready to install. We’ll apply a thin layer of liquid gasket to the edge.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\nLet’s roughen up the cover side overall. A gentle press-fit is the smart way to go.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"
\nThis is something I made before, but when press-fitting parts, it’s best to avoid using a box if possible and instead make a “press-fit collar with good dimensions that centers easily and goes in smoothly.” It makes future work easier, and even after doing it 100 or 1,000 times, you’ll have fewer mistakes.<\/p>\n

Unless it’s something extreme, you don’t need to tap seals at all\u2014just push with your hand and it’s done with a “pop!”<\/p>\n

\nThen apply liquid gasket to the edge and let it dry, and we’re done.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s clean now and I’m happy about it.<\/p>\n

\nThe oil’s dirty, so we’ll change it.<\/p>\n

We’re waiting on the generator damper. Also, I’ll make that wire bracket thing for you.<\/p>\n
