\nThe work on the faster-progressing bike is finished, so we’re back to the GSX-R1100J.
\nLet’s do a shiny swing arm, rear maintenance, and OH.<\/p>\n

\nIn no time, we’ve got the rear off.<\/p>\n

\nWe remove the bearings. The best approach is to warm them up as much as possible so there’s no strain. There are no photos, but the bearing condition was excellent.<\/p>\n

\nIf possible, I think it’s better not to use a slide hammer.
\nThe manual lists a slide hammer as a specified tool. But how on earth do you secure the swing arm?<\/p>\n

Hold it with your foot? Clamp it in a vise and damage the arm? With a puller, none of that is necessary.<\/p>\n

This special tool is Suzuki genuine, but it’s already discontinued. If you use your head, you can remove it without this puller.<\/p>\n

I think smart work is the kind that doesn’t hurt to show the customer.<\/p>\n

\nFrame pivot width. Basically, if it’s not wide enough, the swing arm won’t fit! Obviously.<\/p>\n

If there’s too much clearance, you narrow the frame and there’s a limit to that too, so it gets sloppy.
\nIf the clearance is too tight, it won’t fit. Modern adjustable pivot widths are convenient.<\/p>\n

Assembling the entire swing arm and checking the clearance is tedious. We first assemble just the component parts, and if there’s clearance, we reduce it by changing the shim thickness.<\/p>\n

And regarding that clearance, whether to make the thickness equal left and right or thicker on one side\u2014it’s up to you.<\/p>\n

\nProtect heavily and work gently and smoothly.<\/p>\n

Ah, it’s nerve-wracking. By the way, the chain adjuster area is oily.<\/p>\n

Completed with no damage. We cut the chain, so now we’re waiting for it to be riveted.<\/p>\n
