I always question the repro harnesses for air-cooled Z-series bikes.<\/p>\n

Since they basically have to fit on the standard model, they’re built to match the original design.
\nIt’s quite a hassle, and from a modern perspective, I wonder why it has to go back and forth like this so much.<\/p>\n

I wish there were a harness with all the electrical components fully integrated.
\nSwitches, fuses, charging system, ignition system, lights and so on\u2014all custom-designed.<\/p>\n

The rectifier and regulator are separate on different model harnesses, and they thoughtfully bring out two connectors. For the charging system, you just plug the generator into the regulator, drop ground, and run it to the battery and fuse\u2014so I think it could be much cleaner.<\/p>\n

Z-series bikes basically have few ground points, so I think it would be good to pick up ground around 1.25 from the engine and run it all the way to the front and rear.<\/p>\n

For now, what’s sold commercially gets bundled up when you route it, and there’s no helping that.<\/p>\n

If I untangle it and strip it down to the minimum, I wonder how much simpler it could be\u2014but at that point, it might be faster to just re-run each wire individually.<\/p>\n
