\nThese step blocks\u2014we keep buying them but they keep disappearing. These 150MM scale blocks: we had about ten at the start of the year, and now there are only three. Where did the other seven go?<\/p>\n

I added five more, so I’m taking this chance to create a proper storage spot for them.
\nWith a back gauge, filling them evenly is easy. After that, I spot-weld an L-bracket to fix it in place, cut a round rod, TIG weld it, and then add a few tack welds to prevent them from falling out. Done.<\/p>\n

\nThey’re set up to clamp onto the top of the milling machine.
\nHopefully they won’t disappear anymore.<\/p>\n

\nGas cans are now on the milling machine too. Since our fabrication shop is super tight on space, we make the most of every usable area.<\/p>\n

\nI used to hang the welding mask on the argon bottle, but it would fall off sometimes, so I finally made a proper holder. A simple plate would work, but I think it’s cooler to use something we’ve actually fabricated.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s just a small thing, but it looks pretty good.<\/p>\n

\nI dropped a cast vise and broke a corner, and pieces came out. I wondered if cast iron would hold up, but it turned out to be surprisingly solid.<\/p>\n

When the tools you use look well-cared for, I think you naturally feel more motivated to keep them clean and treat them with respect.<\/p>\n

It would be nice if everything felt like treasure.<\/p>\n
