Let’s simplify things step by step.<\/p>\n

\nFirst, secure solid power and ground connections to the Watanabe unit.<\/p>\n

Power goes through a relay, and ground connects directly to the engine.
\nThis way, power and ground no longer run through the harness.<\/p>\n

\nWhen using a relay, a fuse is essential\u2014the shorter the run, the better.
\nThe battery-to-fuse section is unprotected. If it gets pinched and falls on the frame, it’ll go up in flames pretty quick.<\/p>\n

I rarely see customer DIY electrical work, but honestly, I’m amazed how often it doesn’t catch fire. Must just be luck.<\/p>\n

\nThe connections on the unit side weren’t great either, so I cut them and soldered direct.<\/p>\n

\nDon’t underestimate fuses either\u2014oxidation is a real problem.
\nI polished everything.<\/p>\n

\nThe right switch connector looks okay.<\/p>\n

\nThe switch itself checks out.<\/p>\n

\nUnbelievably heavy throttle\u2014bad routing. I fixed that.<\/p>\n

\nHmm, the cable color doesn’t match anything… and there’s a bolt sticking out.
\nI shortened it.<\/p>\n

\nThe stopper wasn’t locked\u2014scary. I switched to a flush slim-head bolt.<\/p>\n

\nThe throttle cable was a real hassle\u2014and that’s when a Ninja popped out of the carburetor.<\/p>\n

\nCleaned it up while I was at it.<\/p>\n
